Break My Filter.
You are my brand new diary, I needed a new one since my old one ran out of space. I’ll start with a basic introduction. My name is Elena Vivid. I’m studying for my Engineering bachelor degree at University and I’m 20 years old. I managed to excel in my class and am hoping to get the top marks, but that’s more of a competitive thing, I always have to be the best, it’s just my way.
A lot of people get mad at my attitude, they don’t like my enthusiasm, but that’s because society is broken.
This world… it’s just so strict. And so dull.
Something big happened before I was born, I don’t know all the details, no one does, but apparently the world used to have this thing called ‘Colour’ I don’t know what that is, since the world is simply many shades of grey, but from what I heard, colour was taken away because it was dangerous.
It distracted people, caused road accidents and brought out violent behaviour's, it effected how we see things and how we acted around things. That’s why it was taken away, no one really knows how it works but all we know is its gone, this was 80 or so years ago though.
I guess I can understand something so dangerous; you would want it gone.
*Or at least, that’s what I used to think, but now… Things are… different. It all started a week ago, when things … began to change, it started off as just a normal day……
*…..The day started off with me going to university, just as always, going to class just like always, working on analysis, progress reports, incident reports, forecasts and plans proposals just as always, then just before lunch, as class was ending…….
-Then, you won’t believe this, there was a cat, stuck in a tree; I had to help the little guy down, it’s the only decent thing to do. Then the owner of the cat, nice old lady, took the cat from me and with a big smile thanked me and asked if I wanted to stay for tea, I mean I couldn’t refuse, that would have been rude. (THIS is Viva, He’s a little strange like me, he’s always making up ridiculous story’s and excuses not to do work, how he managed to get into university is beyond me.)
-Soooo, you’re saying you want to borrow my notes? (This was an average Monday morning for me, Viva always slept in on Mondays and ended up missing the first class, no one says anything because his grades are so good, I like to think my notes are a big help in that regard)
-You are my guardian angel, where would I be without you.
-On time for a change?
-UH, your words … how they wound me so. (He can be so very over dramatic sometimes) I can’t help being late, There are good deeds that need doing and who is better for the job than good old Viva?
-except that no one in town acts like that; People are very prejudice about public shows of emotion, even smiling in public is seen as inappropriate. It’s the very reason were seen as outcast. (Sometimes I could feel the rest of the classes eyes burrowing into my head, I can feel their eyes throwing daggers at me, because I’m outspoken, because I show blatant disregard for what they call ‘proper etiquette’. I’d rather be myself than conform to their ridicules example of ‘normality’ and that’s why I’m considered an outcast, but being shunned by most of society isn’t a good enough reason to expel me and since I also get the best scores it would hurt the university’s reputation to throw out their best student.)
-You have a point their… (Viva is the only person I know who truly understands how it feels, He’s like a brother to me, he’s my best friend.) Elena, I have a confession to make… there was no cat, I overslept.
-Again with the hurtful words.
-Why don’t you set an alarm?
-It will wake you up in time for class.
-Now who’s using the hurtful words?
-That would be old Viva here.
-Can you please stop referring to yourself in third person it’s weird.
-Conciseness is a matter of perspective.
-And you, what? See your conciseness from another perspective than us mere mortals?
-Perhaps I do, you should bow down to my superior being.
-I’ll start construction on your memorial tower as an offering straight away.
-That would pleas me peasant. (It’s easy to joke around with someone as laid back as Viva, it’s a nice distraction from the others around us; those who look down upon us for acting this way. Sometimes I feel sorry for them, they must feel so restricted, knowing than if they were to slip up even once and show any sign of emotion, they would be treated like us. I guess it’s not so bad for me because I have Viva, if I didn’t have him… who knows where I’d be) Anyway, I’ve got to go and pick up some spare parts for a car I’m building, sorry I won’t be able to go to lunch with you today.
-That’s fine, guess I’ll just go eat by myself today.
-I should get going now… (I noticed Viva looking around the room, he seemed a little nervous, I couldn’t tell why) unless you want to tag along, wouldn’t want to leave you on your own.
-Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.
-Elena… (He hesitated for a moment, looking at the others in the room, I didn’t understand why. I looked around the room and was greeted by the usual glares, but something felt off. Somehow the glared weren’t just of anger, they were threats. But I ignored it)
-Really, Viva I’ll be fine, you should get the parts you need and I’ll see you later.
-ok, if you sure… just promise you’ll stay on campus.
*I didn’t keep my promise, I probably should have, if I had stayed on campus, none of this would have happened…
